6th Annual JCB Research & Awards Day

Research and Awards Day 2017

The JCB held its 6th Annual Research and Awards Day celebration on May 31, 2017. The event was well attended with JCB friends mingling and viewing the Poster Innovation Showcase. Jennifer Gibson kicked off the event with an inspiring overview of the JCB community's many accomplishments in 2016-17.

Barbara Secker announced the names of this year's graduating students, and then followed up by presenting the JCB faculty associate and student awards. We would like to thank our featured presenters who where on hand to give out the various awards: Ron Harrison and Ron MacKinnon for the Christine Harrison Bioethics Education Award; Faye Librach for the Larry Librach Prize in Ethics and End of Life Care; and Ross Upshur for the Ross Upshur Graduate Thesis Mentorship Award.

A highlight of the awards ceremony was the announcment of the newly-created Martin McKneally Capstone Project Award. This award was devised to honour Dr. McKneally on his impending retirement and to reflect his many contributions to the JCB and, in particular, to the MHSc in Bioethics program. Dr. McKneally co-created the Practical Bioethics Course (CHL3052H) and its capstone project requirement, and expertly co-directed the course for many years. This new award will be given for the first time in the 2017-18 academic year. Below is a list of the winners of the 2016-17 awards.
